Task 17 (15.04.)
picture
It is quite interesting that a person who obtained the nobel prize for peace, is said to be a advocate for the colonialism in Africa. Albert Schweitzer had spent many years in Africa, working in his hospital and treating African people to cure their sicknesses. One should suppose that he would be against the colonial powers because he pleaded much for them. Funnily enough this was not the case. In Schweitzer’s opinion the African people were small children or little brothers which had to be introduced to the European culture and which had to learn many things before they could be seen as a equal person. Obviously he didn’t see a contradiction in this. Maybe he thought it was his due to help the colonialists to form the Africans after the imagination of the Europeans, which would also be a bit strange because I always thought he would be an intelligent person, who knows that the color of the skin doesn’t say anything about the person…
A sentence by Albert Schweitzer
„Ich bin Leben, das leben will, inmitten von Leben, das leben will.“
in English:
” I am life, which wants to live, amongst of life, which wants to live.”
